Travel to New York City with Pippa Roscoe

Claimed for the Greek’s Child was a very special book for me. I had been working on the characters and story for quite some time, but it began to come together for me while I was in New York. Having just left my job, sold my South London flat, and I was about to put an offer on what would be my new home, I’d decided to spend six weeks in Manhattan, rather than twiddle my thumbs in Norfolk!

I dragged a friend along with me and we
rented a fabulous little apartment (I’d say flat, but when in NY, obvs!) in the
Upper East Side. It was perfect, two bedrooms, kitchen, washing machine (which
we discovered was an oddity apparently!) shower, but most importantly it had
access to a little table and chairs on the roof! Perfect for me and my morning
writing and coffee sessions.

They say that the noise in New York is one
of the first things you notice. I must admit, I thought – I’ve lived in London
my whole life, I’m used to hustle and bustle. But no! Honestly, I was
surprised, but I didn’t mind the gentle hum that rose up around me each morning
as I typed away what would become Claimed for the Greek’s Child.

For six weeks we wandered around Central Park, the Highline, the meatpacking district, the museums, the coffee shops, little boutiques with clothes that I will never be able to afford. We ate in some incredible places, saw an American Football game, visited the Christmas section at Macey’s… in August! We took a little trip to Boston (on the Greyhound bus!!) where we ate in even more incredible places and visited Salem. (My writer’s mind completely alight with all things witchy and seafoody!). Just before we left we even managed to accidentally crash some big political gathering that covered the area with secret service men!

And of all the things I remember and love about that time, the most special was sitting in the early hours of the morning, bashing away on my laptop while it still had battery left, drinking coffee that was like rocket fuel because it took me a while to figure out the coffee machine. Anna and Dimitri became as much a part of that holiday as all the places and people we met in those six weeks, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

About the Author

Mills & Boon author Pippa Roscoe lives in Norfolk near her family and makes daily promises that this will be the day sbhe will leave the computer and take a long walk in the countryside. She can’t remember a time when she wasn’t dreaming of gorgeous alpha males and misunderstood heroines. Totally her mother’s fault of course—she gave Pippa her first romance to read at the age of seven! She is inconceivably happy that she gets to share those daydreams with her readers.

  2. That does sound an idyllic few months and that is great that you got so much work done on your book while seeing so much around NYC and Boston.

  9. Hi Sophia, I'm always working away whenever I travel. If I can't fit a laptop in my bag, it's a notebook, or better, more than one notebook! Best wishes.

  11. It's funny, most people I spoke to usually went for a week or a long weekend, primarily for shopping or hitting certain 'tourist spots', so it was lovely to ease into it with a little less stress and rush. I really enjoyed it. Thanks Mary! Best wishes.

  14. Well, given that the Christmas store was up at Macey's in September, I can imagine that there's also different things to do depending on what time of year you visit! Next time I get to NY I really want to explore Brooklyn and the Upper East side a little more! Best wishes Suzanne!

  17. Sounds like a fab trip, and to be able to visit for a full six weeks is even better! Ex-Hubby is from New York, as well as several friends, and even though they're from there, they don't visit some of the really cool spots. I asked them all the time why in the world they'd want to stand in long lines to eat at Red Lobster when they had all these other famous or exotic restaurants to eat at?(lol) Kudos on your book! Hugs...RO
