Travel to Greece with Pippa Roscoe

[caption id="attachment_1434" align="alignleft" width="300"] Pippa with Rachael Thomas[/caption]

Earlier this year I convinced Rachael Thomas to come to Crete with me on a research/writing trip. I know that I write better in the sun, outside. I’m not sure whether it’s the fresh air, or the warmth, or just being away from home but there’s something about it that helps the words to flow. We packed up our laptops and booked the flights and accommodation – something that was done with military precision worthy of any determined, accomplished Harlequin heroine! – and picked the most beautiful hotel in Crete.

We arrived early in the morning, which meant that the first thing I did before we could check into the hotel was to get myself an iced coffee. Okay – so one thing I LOVE, to a really insane degree, is Greek Ice Coffee. It has to be sweet because, of course, I’m on holiday so the diet is OFF. On average I need about twenty minutes of alone time with this gorgeous thing before I could even think about eating breakfast. I may even need a second one!

Our room was stunning and the view and balcony perfect – because when the sun became too hot, I could retreat to the shade of the balcony and continue to work as I looked out at the magnificent ocean. It wasn’t long before we settled into a little routine – me at the breakfast table with my lap top and iced coffee and all the other guests staring at me like I was crazy. (With Rach at a safe distance away not to be associated with my early morning madness.) I always got there first, so I was installed, up and running before any other guest was about.

We’d work through the morning, sometimes have a swim, then have a delicious lunch by the pool and if the creative bug had run its course, the rest of the day would be spent reading, or walking around the hotel, and surrounding area. It was a beautiful part of the island. The food was amazing, the company truly wonderful and the time to just sink into writing, stories, ideas was sublime.

And then the evening rolled around in a perfectly lazy fashion and it was time for a cheeky drink. We met some lovely people in the bar and the laughter was loud and fun! As was the holiday. I feel so lucky that I can combine my love of Greece and work in that way, and do enjoy being able to add the authentic little first hand experiences to my stories about gorgeous brooding Greek alpha males. Dimitri is coming up soon! He’s Book 2 in The Winners’ Circle – Claimed

For The Greek’s Child. I hope you look out for him!

In the meantime, where is your favourite place to visit to unwind, and do they have a special drink or food that you just can’t resist?

About the Author

Totally her mother’s fault of course—she gave Pippa her first romance to read at the age of seven! She is inconceivably happy that she gets to share those daydreams with her readers.
