A bike ride along the Murray River
[caption id="attachment_1296" align="alignleft" width="343"] The Murray River[/caption]
The best way to see the Wonga Wetlands is by bike, a short 20-kilometre ride on a paved bike path along the Murray River from downtown Albury. The town of Albury/Wodonga (known as the twin cities) is about half way between New South Wales’ capital city of Sydney and Victoria’s capital city of Melbourne. Indeed, both towns are on the Hume highway that goes between these two capital cities. The Murray River divides the two states, and the two towns both of which are situated on its banks. Albury is in New South Wales, Wodonga is in Victoria. They have a combined population of just under 100,000 people and is a major regional centre.

The ride to the Wonga Wetlands was one of the best rides I’ve been on. It was a lovely sunny day, which helped. There was no wind and the path along the river was not too hilly, not to flat. Like Goldilocks, this path was Just Right. There is so much to see and experience along the way, including Aboriginal sculptures strategically placed along the path, that made the ride even more delightful.
Because we were doing this ride mid-week we hardly saw another person, so we had the entire environment to ourselves. Because there was so much to see, we took it very slowly, stopping heaps, taking lots of photos along the way. It seemed like every few minutes there was something else to catch our attention, or another view that stopped us in our tracks it was so stunningly gorgeous.
We saw heaps of birds; we even spotted a few fish in the water. No way was I going to be striding through the long grass on the side of the bike path, knowing full well that snakes were likely residing within. But the thing that dropped our jaws and made us gasp were the views over Horseshoe Lagoon, a body of water that has been cut off from the main river and acts like an inland lake and flood plain.

And, to top off an already amazing ride, we came across a property with the same name as my fictional town, Willow’s Bend, that features in my story Good Enough For Love. Naturally, I HAD to have my picture taken by the gate, just to prove to everyone back home that the place really did exist.
Now, of course, I need to some far-off, very rich relative to die, a relative I don’t have by the way, just so I can afford to buy that property. Not that it’s for sale. But it is good to have dreams, don’t you think?

About the Author
Australian, Wendy Lee Davies began writing romances as a lark after leaving her communications and editing job of many years.
Wendy enjoys cycling, especially cycle touring which she did a lot of in her younger, some say more foolish, years. Now that she’s older and wiser, Wendy is wearing out the bike paths around her home town, making good use of her amazing pedal-assist electric bike. She's also traversed most of the incredible rail trails available in Victoria, and one in New Zealand as well.
If she's not writing or riding her bike, Wendy can be found enjoying a coffee in some cafe. Or taking landscape photographs. Sometimes she makes cookies or muffins. She’s even been known, on occasion, to annoy her writing friends with long, detailed editorial comments on their latest writing endeavour. But don't worry. They get her back, tenfold, when it comes to critiquing her latest romance-in-progress.
You can catch up on her latest news via her website ( www.wendyleedavies.com ). She loves hearing from readers, so don’t be shy about dropping her a line.
