Travel to Italy with Pippa Roscoe

Last year I co-opted, arm-twisted and generally bribed Jennifer Hayward (okay, it didn’t actually take all that!) to come on holiday with me to the Amalfi cost. We travelled to Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi working our way through some of the best restaurants and stunning hotels along that glorious coastline and had the most amazing time. The sun shone, I managed not to get sunburnt – a feat with my Cullen-pale skin! – we laughed, indulged and saw so many beautiful things!

But for a few days there were terrible rainstorms and we were stuck in our hotel room. So we hunkered down and ordered room service. There we were, one night, looking out at Positano which was stunning even through the rain drops from our balcony! We could see the lights glittering on the hillside and the rain battered harbour. But then I saw a gorgeous private pool jutting out from one of the hotels.

In an instant, in my mind (sadly, not in reality!) I imagined a glorious Italian hero swimming lengths, working off

angry frustrations, lost in his own private world. As I snapped a picture of the pool, I

wondered if my imaginary hero might have seen the flash. Perhaps our heroine was a paparazzi catching the photograph that would prove to be the scoop of the century? Was he supposed to be somewhere else? What if… what if… My mind couldn’t stop whirring, and I knew that I desperately wanted to write that story.

The next morning the rain stopped and the sun came out. We headed off to the island of Capri where my grandparents had their honeymoon over sixty years before and I wondered what it must have looked like to them. We had a truly wonderful week in Italy, discussing books, our lives, making memories and laughing until our sides hurt. There were so many magical moments in that trip it’s hard to pick just one. But the image of my Italian hero pounding through his private pool still remains. And though I still haven’t managed to write him and his photographer heroine yet, one day I know I will!

About the Author

Mills & Boon author Pippa Roscoe lives in Norfolk near her family and makes daily promises that this will be the day she will leave the computer and take a long walk in the countryside. She can’t remember a time when she wasn’t dreaming of gorgeous alpha males and misunderstood heroines. Totally her mother’s fault of course—she gave Pippa her first romance to read at the age of seven! She is inconceivably happy that she gets to share those daydreams with her readers.
