Travel to Hong Kong with Joanne Dannon

Here in Australia, we are far away from America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. However, we are close to Asia and this is a popular destination for us Australians to visit.

 

My husband travels a lot and spends a few months every year in Hong Kong. I have been fortunate to join him on his work trips and we’ve taken our children with us a few times.

 

What’s so great about Hong Kong? Everything! The people are very nice and welcoming, the city is clean (and safe!), the food is delicious, the signs are in English (and Chinese), the public transport is brilliant plus, there’s so much culture to see and enjoy!

 

Not only is Hong Kong a wonderful destination for a family it’s also great to go there as a couple or for singles. 

 

Most locals speak some English so it’s easy to get around, plus the signage is clear everywhere. The best way to get around is on foot or public transport. There are plenty of taxis and they are well priced however, with the traffic, it can sometimes be quicker to walk.

 

 


There are so many fab places to visit on both Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. You can always catch a one hour ferry and go to Macau, or catch the train to China. Because we’ve visited so many times, we’ve done all the touristy things but even walking along the foreshore on Kowloon is lovely. On a warm day, it’s breathtaking to look across the ha
rbour and look at Hong Kong Island.

 

The only downside, for me, is the congestion. With millions of people in a small area of land, and it’s busy, all the time. One night we returned by train at 10.30pm on the train, and it was packed, full of people. This is so different to Australia. Every time I return to Australia, I'm reminded how lucky we are to live in such a big country, where the air is clean and the roads are wide.

 

I love going to Hong Kong, it’s such a great city and highly recommend you look at all the attractions before deciding what to see and do.

    I have done a couple of cruises that took me out of the US but that is about it. Loving the fact that you can travel and see so much.

    That's so neat! I've never been but love looking at photos. Very cool yall have been able to go with the hubby on his trips. I hear ya on space. I don't mind visiting packed areas but it's so different than where I am. I like a bit of breathing room and that if I really wanted I could go for a drive and not see any other humans/houses/etc for hours on the back roads.

    Thanks Anna :) I know what you mean about the breathing space. I may live in a city but the roads are wide, there are plenty of local parks, and it's only an hour's drive to be in the "country".

    As much as I love HK, I could never live there.

    I agree with you about Hong Kong it’s a wonderful place and one we wouldn’t have discovered without our trips to Australia. I also agree about the congestion, so many people all in one place can be quite frightening but the more times I visit the more I get used to it.
    My son moved to Australia nine years ago, hence the trips to Hong Kong. Love, love, love Australia and can’t wait to visit again next year.

    Thanks Barbara! HK is a great place to stop over when making the long flight from Australia to either Europe, the Middle East or North America.

    For some reason, it seems to be looked over as a tourist destination but as I wrote, it's a great place for singles, couples and families.

    HK is a fab place to visit and it seems to be overlooked as a destination holiday. I know friends of mine see it as a place to "stop over" in, when going to the Middle East or Europe.

    It's not as cheap as other areas of Asia, but I just love it.

    While i've been to Europe, i've never had the pleasure of travel to Asia. It sounds like Hong Kong is a great place to go to "get your feet wet", so to speak.

    There are so many fab places to travel to, Europe, Africa, ME, Americas, Asia etc....but it's hard to see everything.

    Asia is so close to Australia so it's easier, for many of us, to travel there :)
