During 2016 I was lucky enough to visit London several times and I can’t wait to go again!
Living on a farm in the Welsh countryside is very different from a big city and London is so full of excitement from the moment I step off the train. There is so much going on, so many people, it’s fascinating.
You can visit London either on a budget or blow it, depending on where you stay and what you do, so spend some
time before travelling working out what’s important to you and most of all what fits with your travel budget. Do try and see a show in the West End. It’s a marvellous experience.
Do take an open-top bus tour. You can get on and off all over the city and see so many things.
Don’t try to fit in too much on your trip. It’s far better to see or do a few less things but to make the most of them.
Tips & Tricks...
London is an amazing city, full of things to see and do, but unless you are there for a very long time, you will never be able to do it all. The best tip I can offer is to select a few places you want to go or things you want to do first, enabling you to enjoy them to the full. Any other places you go after that is a bonus.
The last time I went, at the end of 2016, I stayed in a hotel close to Paddington Station in a nice quiet street close to Hyde Park. On other occasions I have stayed in the center of all the action in Piccadilly, but it all depends on where you want to go.
I love walking and find that constant use of buses, taxis or the tube to get around London, means you miss things. So take some time out for a walk and soak up London, even if it’s just in the park or to do some window shopping along Oxford Street.

I've never been to London, but it's a place I really, really want to go. Your advice to see/do a little less, but to make the most of it really makes sense.

ReplyDeleteMy family briefly lived in England when I was much younger, and although I started school there I only remember small bits and pieces of the beautiful country. I do, however, vividly remember the stone lions in Trafalgar square. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and tips, I would love to go back one day.

Escape is the big draw for romance, so having a story set in London or Paris or New York or San Francisco has great appeal. Big cities are romantic, no doubt about that.
